It's A Wonderful Life
It’s a Wonderful Life
It was December 20, 1946 when the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” was first released. It is the story about George Bailey who has spent his entire life giving up his big dreams for the good of his town, Bedford Falls. But on Christmas Eve, George’s Uncle Billy loses $8,000.00. George is now broke and suicidal over the evil plans of Mr. Potter. An angel by the name of Clarence comes to earth to help George see the difference he has made in this little town. George’s life made a difference in the lives of others. George finally was able to see that indeed, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
Acts 9:36-43 records a brief biography of a woman whose name is Dorcas (Tabitha). She is a woman who has devoted her life to good works and charity. She does (continually) a lot of good. She is also a disciple of Jesus Christ. When she died, she left a community of weeping, grieving people. How could she be replaced? Who would be able to do what she did? When Peter arrived in Joppa, he, by the power of God, raised Dorcas from the dead.
The church would have survived without Dorcas, but we must not be guilty of saying that her death would not have made any difference. We must not conclude that the church would not have suffered great loss.
Think of that one person who was present at just the right time. At just the moment you were in greatest need. The one person who changed your life. Who could have replaced that person?
Think about yourself and the moments when you were there for someone. Who could have replaced you at that time? Think about those miles you walked to help someone with cancer. Think about those hours you have volunteered. How many people are different today because of your graciousness?
It truly is a wonderful life. Part of the reason that this is a wonderful life is because of you. We will likely never be like George Bailey and get to see how life would have been different without us, but we can certainly see how life is with us. If God be for us, who can be against us?
Dennis
