No Special Privileges Here
No Special Privileges Here
I have found out that it is legal. It is legitimate for two vehicles to occupy the same lane at the same time. I never gave that any consideration until I was slowed in a traffic tie-up just out of Santa Barbara (I think they call it “rush hour”). I heard the engine and then saw a motorcycle making its way between the cars that were stopped on the highway. I am not sure that riding a motorcycle between those cars is a good idea, but I do know that it is legal.
Maybe you have been in line at a grocery store and have slowly, but patiently, moved closer and closer to the check-stand until you are actually the next in line. Then another check-stand opens and the cashier announces, “I can help the next person in line.” You begin to move pull your shopping cart out of line to go the newly opened register only to realize that all those who were standing in line behind you apparently thought they were the next in line instead of you.
Sometimes people get the idea that they are a little more privileged than others. A young man was going through the line at a cafeteria and filling his plate with delicious food. He placed a dinner roll on his plate and then reached for some butter when he saw the sign, “Only One Patty Of Butter Please.” This young man ignored the sign and took two patties. One of the employees was standing there and said, “One patty of butter please.” The young man immediately said, “Do you know who I am?” The lady replied, “No. But it really does not make any difference because I am the butter lady.”
Jesus said that He was the narrow gate. There is no shortcut to heaven. It is through Jesus or not at all. James and John wanted front row seats, numbers two and three. The other 10 apostles get a little miffed and earn a rebuke from Jesus. He reminded them that things are different in His kingdom. (Mark 10). In the Kingdom, it is not about being served, but serving.
What do servant leaders look like? A servant leader is someone who does not have an ez-pass to the front of any line (with the possible exception of potluck). A true spiritual leader is one who teaches through the example of serving.
A spiritual leader is one who does run away from his calling. Consider Jonah and his response to the call of God.
A spiritual leader is someone who understands what it means to be last. They are people who use work to get people to grow, and do not use people to get work done.
Remember, Jesus said that He was the narrow gate. We need to strive to enter.
