Another Tragedy

On Wednesday evening in class I talked with the young people about the Virginia Tech Tragedy. On Thursday morning in the Ladies Class, we also talked about the Virginia Tech Tragedy. This article is yet another address of the same situation.

When events such what took place at VT happen, our memories are massaged to reflect on similar events that have taken place in the past. I surely do not need to mention them here, I am sure that you remember them well. It has happened all to often.

What do we, as Christians, make of events such as this? From the Amish last year we were reminded of the need to forgive. From the 9-11 event we learned the power of compassion as we saw a nation come together as we tried to recover, as was the case with the Oklahoma Bombing.

The Bible is perforated with such events that brought devastation as well. Through the slaughter of Hebrew babies in Egypt, one was saved and raised in the court of the King, enabling him to be uniquely qualified to be the emancipator of God’s chosen. We are reminded of the plagues brought about upon the Egyptians. Through those plagues, a nation was delivered from slavery. Through the death of Jesus came salvation.

When Adam sinned, he planted the seed that continues to produce violent and murderous people in our society. The disaster is found in the chain reaction of Adam’s sin. Yet one day, God will contain all the disastrous seeds of evil and cast them into eternal fire.

We cannot change any of the events in our world. Tomorrow, you and I may be the victims of such senselessness. There are no guarantees of our physical safety as we go about our daily routines. But what we do find is the safety guaranteed through Jesus Christ of our spiritual heath.

Eph 3:20-21 “20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

Yvette Oseguera was baptized Wednesday night. Yvette is the wife of Gilbert Delpalacio, who was baptized a couple of weeks ago and the daughter of Alfred and DeliaOseguera. Take time this morning to meet and greet Yvette.


NEXT SUNDAY

PRINCIPAL PAY-DOWN SUNDAY. The 5th Sunday in April will be a special effort to pay down some of the principal on our loan for the Family Center building. In addition to your regular contribution you may give toward our effort to pay off the loan before its due date. This will save the church a great deal in the long run. You may contribute anytime by designating it on your check, but this is a special opportunity to join with others who wish to help in this way.


The ladies restroom is ready for full use, including warm water for washing hands. (It really does look elegant thanks to Joyce Niedermann for her planning and design) A lot of people helped with the renovation.
